Town of Cortlandt – Establishing A Background Check Policy for Youth Volunteers and/or Employees Overview

The Town of Cortlandt Government has a Risk Management Policy to: communicate guidelines and related materials that are intended to foster safe experiences, to initiate risk management registration and background checks for adults who are seeking to coach, instruct, and work with our Town youth in any capacity in the Town of Cortlandt Department of Recreation and Conservation activities. Therefore, adults (18 years and older) participating in the Town of Cortlandt – Department of Recreation and Conservation above mentioned activities must have a background check. The Town of Cortlandt has developed a convenient, cost-effective way for you to fulfill the requirement of a background check if you are an adult seeking to coach, instruct and work with youth in the Town of Cortlandt – Department of Recreation and Conservation activities. This on-line method is available to any adult who can complete ALL of the required information and affirmatively check the agreement box.

The information provided must be truthful and complete, and the Town of Cortlandt has the right to have the information verified by a third party company. Failure to provide complete and accurate information may result in your disqualification from employment, volunteering and/or coaching. Generally, risk management clearance will be provided within a few days of your submission, however, if the information you provide is not verified by the third party, YOUR RISK MANAGEMENT CLEARANCE WILL BE DELAYED.

The Town of Cortlandt – Human Resource Office will contact you if your background check reports either a criminal record or does not verify your personal information. During the time it takes to communicate with you to obtain the correct information, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN ANY TOWN OF CORTLANDT – DEPARTMENT OF RECREATION AND CONSERVATION ACTIVITIES. Therefore, you are advised to CAREFULLY review the information you are submitting.

Privacy Policy

We take the maintaining of your personal information very seriously.  This system ensures that only authorized people have access to this information.  Your personal information, such as convictions and your social security number are only viewable by the Town of Cortlandt’s Human Resource Office Department.  Other administrators only have access to whether you have registered or not, and are eligible to volunteer or not.   If your background check reveals information that would result in your disqualification, you will be sent a certified letter with a copy of the background check information.
